The power of small actions
As The Global Women’s Project marks its 11th birthday this month, we’re reflecting on more than a decade of hard work, dedication, and, most importantly, the incredible impact we’ve achieved together.
It’s no secret—we’re not the biggest NGO around. We don’t have a splashy marketing budget, a shiny office, or piles of philanthropic funding. In fact, we don’t even have any paid staff. But what we lack in resources, we more than make up for in heart and hard work. And for the last 11 years, you’ve been right there with us, backing us — and the women we support — every step of the way.
Why it really does take a village
Since we started in 2013, we’ve been lucky enough to partner with some of the most fierce and formidable women-led grassroots organisations in Nepal, Burundi, and Cambodia to create high-impact, low-fuss programs that make tangible differences in women’s lives.
From providing sexual health education and violence prevention workshops in Burundi to offering vocational training, microfinance loans, and mentoring support in Nepal, our focus has always been on delivering programs that directly support and empower women. Everything is driven by women themselves - their needs, challenges and aspirations.
This journey of over a decade has taught us the power of small actions. When women come together – when they pool their resources, skills, and determination – they can create extraordinary change. We see it every day, and this is how we’ve built a sustainable organisation and a lasting movement for global gender equality.
What’s in a number?
Often seen as a ‘master number’ in numerology, the number 11 holds a special significance, symbolising intuition, insight, and enlightenment. It’s a number that often represents the potential for growth, transformation, and the realisation of goals through perseverance and unity — a number that bridges the physical and spiritual, the personal and the collective.
For us at The Global Women’s Project, the number 11 symbolises the power of small, intentional actions to create profound change.
So, as we celebrate 11 years of The Global Women’s Project, we wanted to channel the power of eleven to show solidarity with women in Nepal, Burundi and Cambodia. And that’s exactly what our Power of 11 campaign is all about: celebrating the big impact that purposeful contributions — no matter their size — can make.
How you can get involved
This month, we’re inviting you to join us in celebrating our 11th birthday by contributing what you can to the power of 11. Whether you can give $11, or dial it up to the power of 2 and give $121, or to the power of 3 and give $1,331 – we want to make your donations go even further this August.
11 x 1
For $11, you can fund a workshop for a woman in Burundi, equipping her with essential sexual health and violence prevention education.
11 x 2
For $22, you can fund that workshop for two women.
11 x 3
For $33, you can cover a monthly microfinance loan for a woman in Nepal.
11 x 11
For $121, you can give three women in Nepal access to our Women’s Resource Hubs, offering them the tools they need to build a better future—including vocational training, microfinance loans, legal and mentoring support.
11 x 121
For $1,331, you can give a single mother and survivor of sexual violence in Burundi a year’s worth of safe child care, daily meals, and early education for her child, so she can work and support her family.
Join us in celebrating 11 years of impact
Times are tough, and we know that there are many demands on your attention and resources. But now more than ever, it’s crucial to keep showing up in global solidarity.
Supporting women in Nepal, Burundi, and Cambodia isn’t just about making a difference in those specific places—it’s about standing with women everywhere. It’s about recognising that our rights, liberation, and collective freedoms are inextricably connected.
When you donate to The Global Women’s Project, you’re investing in the future of women worldwide. You’re helping to build a better, more equitable world for all of us.
So, let’s keep the momentum going and celebrate our 11th birthday by investing in women, multiplying our impact, and creating a brighter future.
